What started it all...

This is the very first piece of kimono that I bought.  It was 5 years ago in Melbourne and I instantly fell in love with it!

As soon as I got home from the extravagant research trip I looked into ways of using vintage kimono fabric and before I knew it I had amassed plenty more fabric and had started making fabric flower jewellery.  I never meant to start up a business, but that's exactly where it lead me.

If you take a close look you can see just how special and delicate this kimono silk is.  Imagine how stunning the entire outfit would have looked!  I like to think it was a furisode which is the most formal, and usually most beautiful, style of kimono worn.

There is an abundance of beautiful flowers, nestled along bright orange feathers, as well as purple love hearts and gold flecks throughout.

Looking at this, it really makes me wonder who designed it and who painted it.   Someone pretty talented I think!

The silk has a lovely soft, yet grainy, texture and I've never wanted to do anything with this piece other that admire it ever now and then.  It takes me back to that special day in Melbourne when my eyes first saw it.

Here's the fabric in its entirety, but it's probably smaller than you think.  It only measures 20" x 13" (50cms x 32.5cms).

If you'd like your own piece of vintage kimono I have some available here and here.  As ever, please contact me if you have any questions.

In the news

Imagine my surprise a week or so ago when I opened up my local newspaper and here's a picture of someone wearing a necklace I made!  Kylie Patchett is a talented, energetic motivational speaker and is the author and founder of the Tall Poppy Project.  Do yourself a favour, click here and have a look at her website.  Very inspirational stuff.

Then, a couple of days later another newspaper article appears and another necklace is being worn!  This time by Sara Bucher from the Maleny Cheese Factory.  Funnily enough, I met Sara at a foodie event the day before I saw the article but I didn't know her and she didn't know me!
I emailed both ladies and they graciously said I could display their photos here and on my Facebook page.  Thank you Kylie and Sara for wearing the necklaces in these photos.  I'm very touched.

A weekend away (continued)

Once I'd ooh'd and aah'd over this fabric I carefully selected which part of the fabric to feature and made it into necklace pendants.
Here's a close up of the cherry blossoms...
And a close up of something like an orchid maybe?
Love this one but the name of the flower escapes me...tell me if you know!
I ended up making heaps and heaps more using almost all of the fabric. Now I just have to decide which one I'll keep. Maybe this one...
Thanks for reading!  Hope your day is great. Mxo
